I didn't like how the catcher in the rye ended but it is called the catcher in the rye because when Holden goes into phoebes room they start talking and phone asks Holden what he wants to do with his life and Holden responds with his dream was that these kids were running around in a field of rye near an edge of a cliff and Holden was supposed to catch them if they get to close to the edge. At the bottom of the cliff that Holden is saving the kids from is adult hood or even from becoming fakes or phonies. Holden believes that the older they get to be fake because of all the things the world throws at them and it makes them fake and it's holdens job to keep them from becoming that.

Poem:expectation
Expectations
Derek Skiles
The feeling is weird. You know your going to be out for a long time. You know there's going to be a lot of pain. You say you will be ok when it's over, but it's never over. It keeps coming and the older you get the worse it's going to be, but there's hope to make that recovery. You know, we all know you will probably never be 100% again.
I feel like I should be at the end, but I know I'm not even close. Breaking my knee was probably the worse thing that's happened to me. I have dealt with my hand for years, but this knee thing I feel will always be a problem. I know therapy helped, but it actually didn't. There's still something more. I don't know if it's physically or if it's mentally all in my head. I have already quit one sport due to this problem and I don't want to quit another one.
My coaches tell me if I work hard and improve I will have my chance to play, but what they don't see is that, I am giving my best, I'm giving all I can I'm risking another injury just to play a stupid game.

"It's full of phonies, and all you do is study so that you can learn enough to be smart enough to be able to buy a goddam Cadillac some day, and you have to keep making believe you give a damn if the football team loses, and all you do is talk about girls and liquor and sex all day, and everybody sticks together in these dirty little goddam
cliques" Chapter 17
What does it say?
He saying that All you do is get smart so you can earn a car, he's also saying that everyone talks about the same stuff, but in their own cliques. Basketball guys don't talk with book club people etc. if your not in the group no
one talks to you.
What does it mean?
I think it mean just what he said everyone sticks to their group you don't try and talk to someone who's not in your group, but each group talks about the same things.
Why does it matter?
It matters because it seems that Holden really isn't in a clique and it seems as if he really doesn't want to be in
One. I think what hes saying is if your in a clique your a phony, because your supposed to do what everyone else in your clique is doing which isn't who you are and I think thats why Holden stay away fom being in a clique.

What I think this quote is saying is that he would rather die under what he believes in than die under what he's not. Like I would rather die a in what I believe in rather than die because of something that I don't believe in. Holden would want to die for something he believes in.
As A quote from outside catcher in the rye I choose a song lyric. The song is "up all night" by drake because in the chorus it seemed just like Holden he's going to do it the way he wants it everyone's opinion don't really matter and he doesnt really care, almost as if he's just given up.
"I'm about whatever man F$&@ what they be talking about, They opinon doesn't count, We the only thing that matters,So we do it how we do it."

Chapter 5
The greif that Holden seems to holding on to is his little brother Allie who was 2 yrs yuonger and died of leukemia. He loved his brother very much and you can tell by the he talks about him everybody loved Allie. His teachers would send home notes say how great a kid Allie was and they weren't just saying that to make his parents feel better. He noticed a lot about his brother too. He also kept allies glove with all the writing in it. It kind of surprised me of how much he cared for his brother.
" i slept in the garage the night he died, I broke all the windows with my fist."
I thought this really stuck out to me because when I think of me and my brother I don't know how I would respond to him dying, but I don't think I would punch out widows and risk breaking my hand. I did have a brother that died, but I wasn't old enough to know him and I wasn't alive to grief about it like Holden has.

Holden to me seems like he would be the type of person who is really smart but he doesn't want people to know how smart he really is And he doesn't care to show it. He doesn't care what people think of him and it seems as if he doesn't have many friends and no one wants to be his friend.
I think that I feel a little sorry for other than the fact that he doesn't care if someone is his friend he defenetly needs a good friend that's not mr. Spencer.
